The State Institute of Hotel Management (SIHM) Balangir has been set up with joint assistance from the Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India and Dept. of Tourism, Govt. of Odisha with a view to training and developing skilled manpower for the dynamic Hotel & Tourism Industry. Started in the year 2004, the Institute is currently offering four different demand-driven Diploma courses in core hospitality operations. The SIHM currently operates from a beautiful building in a picturesque location on the outskirts of Balangir town on the Balangir – Titilagarh state highway.
Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India and National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology initiates various awards at National level every year to Institutes of Hotel Management affiliated to NCHMCT for excellence in hospitality education by IHMs and for the meritorious performance by Teachers and students.
For the year 2010-11, this State Institute of Hotel Management, Balangir has won the following awards among the affiliated institutes under NCHMCT all over India.
v Awards won by the students
Ø Secured First Position in Diploma in Food Production by Mr. Priya Ranjan Mallick of SIHM, Balangir in the All India Toppers.
v The Institute has won the following awards for the year 2010-11
Ø Best SIHM All Round Performance (All India First Position).
The awards were given away by Honorable Shri Subodh Kant Sahai, Minister of Tourism, Govt. of India in the presence of Honorable Shri Sultan Ahmed, Minister of State for Tourism, Govt. of India, Honorable Shri Rajen Habib Khwaja, Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India, Shri Sanjay Kothari, IAS, Additional Secretary-Tourism, Govt. of India, and other dignitaries from IHMs and high level professionals from the Hospitality Industry in the function held on 04.04.2012 at 5.00 p.m at the Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.
